Ross Creek Landcare Group
BIRD: linking the biodiversity community
The Ross Creek Landcare Group is a group of residents of the Ross Creek area who have joined together having the same goals:
- to improve our neighbourhood environment and also the broader region, with immediate as well as long-term results
- to learn about the land we live on, to use it in a caring way and to protect it so our children will be able to use and enjoy it as much as we can
The Ross Creek area is on the outskirts of Ballarat to the south-west of the city and is part of the Leigh River Catchment. One of the seven landcare groups in the Leigh Catchment Group, the Ross Creek Landcare Group covers an area bordered by the Haddon, Napoleons, and South Ballarat landcare group areas.
Our general plans for the future
- to help residents gain knowledge about the care for the land
- to eradicate and prevent the establishment of weeds in the area
- to plant trees in various parts of the area to combat salinity and to create habitat for wildlife
- to preserve natural forest areas
- to work together with the local school and involve the children as much as possible
- to provide information on funding environmental projects that you might want to carry out on your property
- and many more...!
We meet every second month at the Ross Creek Hall and there are lots of opportunities for members to join activities and learning programs organised by the Landcare movement at other times. Please check the Landcare Notice Board at the Ross Creek Store for information on current activities and related matters.
